ABOUT JULIE
Julie is a Professional Engineer with more than twelve years of experience working on and leading a variety of new design and preservation projects throughout Greater New York City area and abroad. She began as a consulting design engineer with Silman Associates in New York City, and later went on to specialize in diagnostics and materials testing with Atkinson Noland & Associates.
She is passionately interested in the evaluation and strengthening design of structures and she loves the challenges presented when working with existing buildings, both historic and non-historic (and she doesn’t mind getting her hands dirty either!).
She strives for high-quality design and structural evaluation based on the US Secretary of Interior’s Standards for Historic Preservation, and believes this approach to be a solid background for engaging in preservation work.
Education:
Julie earned a Bachelor of Architecture Degree and a Bachelor of Science Degree in Architectural Engineering from the University of Kansas before moving to New York to complete a Master of Science in Historic Preservation at Columbia University.
During 2012/2013, she was awarded an Erasmus Mundus Scholarship to study structural engineering of historic monuments in Europe and complete research on nondestructive evaluation of historic wood with the Institute of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics in Prague, Czech Republic.
Julie has an active history in leadership within the preservation community, having served on two Alumni Boards with Columbia University and she is a member of the Structural Engineers Association of New York and The Association for Preservation Technology International.
